Altar Calls, Conversion,

and Episcopal Sacramental Theology

Date: June 7, 2026: 11:50 am

Place: SOTH Choir Room

Length: 30 minutes

Audience: Adult forum, Episcopal parish setting
Purpose: To explain the theology of the Baptist altar call, why Episcopalians generally do not use altar calls,

and what in Anglican theology serves the same evangelical purpose.

Teaching Aim

By the end of the session, participants should be able to say:

What an altar call is and what it is meant to accomplish in Baptist worship.

Why Episcopal worship usually does not include altar calls.

How Baptism, Confirmation, confession and absolution, and the Eucharist carry the

Anglican theology of repentance, faith, public profession, and continuing conversion.

Why the issue is not whether people should respond to Christ,

but where and how that response is located within the Church's life.
